I would also say my husband is the best husband.;)<br /><br />Nice expansion on this topic, btw. It is fascinating! I would define trainability as the inate desire to please/accept direction. I've noticed it in dogs, too. For instance, I currently own a Miniature Pincher and compare her to my Aussie who died a year ago. The Aussie loved to please me, he lived to please me. A highly trainable dog. Was he smarter then the MinPin? I couldn't say. However, there is no contest in trainability. THe MinPin just doesn't care very much. I love her and she seems to love me (in her doggy way) but pleasing me isn't high on her list of priorities. We frequently revisit obedience lessons, over and over. The horses I've known and ridden are the same way.
