As it occured in horses, especially the heavy type, as they were used for ploughing etc in the old days. This not a new phenomenon, i was recently looking through some old Vet: Mags and pamphlets, from the 20`s and 30`s. they are predominantly refering to "Tying up", so there anser to it seemed to be, do not stable! Leave the horse to wander and graze.
After heavy work, it must have worked! I read your article with great gusto, especially when some has delved into it, as you have done. All I can say, is that from experience is, and give an example. So here goes!
Some years ago, I hired a horse from a stable to ride the Gala day, at Sanquhar in Scotland. Its a traditional thing here.
The ride took place in hot conditions, of around 75 deg`s.
I noticed something wrong after about ten miles. The mare started to become lethargic.
Suffice to say I stopped and engaged a local vet. He examined, and after scratching his head, stated "I really dont believe it, its my first case for over 40 years, but! Its azuturia! Tying up!"
Turns out the mare wasnt being looked after to any great extent. But she recovered, lots of intravienous electrolites, and keep her moving.
6 Hours later, and everyones gone home! I`m still walking this horse around!..... I complained like hell! to the owner, and after much legal threatening, managed to take ownership of her. She died aged 24, 3 years ago. Of old age! She had ten years with me.cheyenne joneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16957462106844413179noreply@blogger.com
